Mats Hummels says actions by both Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma led to horrific injury

On his Alleine ist schwer podcast, former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels said that both Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma played a role in the action that resulted in Musiala’s injury.

“It was a completely normal action. Not brutal at all. Both players have a part in the injury. That’s how I would put it. You sometimes recognize situations that are simply risky, where you can hurt yourself very quickly. And to me, that looked like an injury right from the start,” said Hummels (as captured by Goal). “The injury is really bad, he’s a great player, but... every game, players and goalkeepers are in tough situations, and [the challenges] are significantly less clean.”

Hummels does have a point, which Musiala, himself, seems to back up. In the end, it was more unfortunate and unlucky than malicious.
