Thanasis Antetokounmpo to re-sign with Bucks under one condition

The Bucks are expected to re-sign Thanasis Antetokounmpo if Giannis stays in Milwaukee, though the superstar is still weighing his future.

The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to re-sign Thanasis Antetokounmpo—provided his brother Giannis stays in Milwaukee—according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

"The Bucks, meanwhile, remain on the hunt for backcourt help and are expected to re-sign Antetokounmpo's brother Thanasis if their superstar indeed remains in Brewtown," Stein reported on his Substack.

Giannis is reportedly weighing all of his options and, for the first time in his career, considering the possibility of leaving Milwaukee.

While speculation around a potential new destination continues to swirl, the two-time MVP recently told YouTube star and streamer Speed that he'll "probably" stay in Milwaukee.

Still, the situation remains fluid. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, there's no clear resolution in sight.

"There are definitely multiple teams that are continuing to monitor his situation," Charania said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. "I think until training camp and the season starts, it's gonna be that way."

Meanwhile, Thanasis is preparing to return to action next season after missing all of last year due to Achilles tendon surgery in May 2024. The injury also kept him out of the Paris Olympics.

The oldest Antetokounmpo brother, now 32, has been with the Bucks since 2019, appearing in 196 regular-season games (11 starts) and averaging 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 7.7 minutes per game.

Thanasis was part of the Bucks' 2021 championship team, when Giannis earned NBA Finals MVP honors. While his role on the court is limited, his value to Milwaukee lies heavily in the leadership, energy, and support he brings to the locker room.
