Middlesbrough have quality and potential to deliver -and a really good human being in charge

The challenge of helping to take Middlesbrough back into the Premier League was one new Boro coach Adi Viveash was only too keen to be part of - and he's already seen the potential on Teesside.

The former Chelsea and Coventry City coach brings huge experience to Rob Edwards' coaching team, and is relishing the task of ensuring Boro are one of the main Championship contenders this coming season.

Viveash has been hugely impressed with the set-up on Teesside despite only being at the club for a few weeks, and is a big admirer of Edwards.

"It's a massive club and and I suppose the challenge of trying to be part of a staff and and players that could get Middlesbrough back to the Premier League," he said. "That's the ultimate goal. And I'm quite excited by that.

"I could see the potential, the quality of the playing squad. With Rob, he's just a really, really good human being, as good as I've ever met. You know he'll give everything to players, to the staff to make them feel comfortable. So it's going to be really interesting to work with him.

"It's only been early days but can always see those those people qualities that he has and I think he's going to get everybody engaged in the project and that's the biggest thing really."

Viveash will work alongside Harry Watling in assisting Edwards this season, and has explained what his role will be as part of the backroom staff - and the merits of different views at the club.

"You can have different paths," he added. "Some some coaches, very good coaches, work at six or seven different clubs. It doesn't mean they haven't done a good job, they just move around. I'm pretty loyal and obviously you'd like to think that you've done a pretty successful job.

"Development and first team is very different. You know, you win tomorrow in development is is one of my sayings, but with the first team you have to try and be successful. Luckily I was and the club was, so hopefully that brings a little bit of calmness, like a fine wine, I suppose.

"As you as you get older, maturity is is part of a team, but I bring a certain quality, Harry will bring a different quality, Rob brings a different quality. So hopefully the three of us molded together, we're all pretty excited about it all, and hopefully it results in the the end goal that we all want."

Boro are returning to the UK today following their week-long training camp in Portugal, with preparations now under way for the pre-season schedule, which starts at Mansfied Town next Saturday (July 19).
