Oliver Glasner must not lack a ruthless edge if he wants to cement Crystal Palace’s status as European contenders.

That was a blow for Oliver Glasner and his men, who secured a place in the Europa League thanks to a fantastic FA Cup run. It was a chance for the Eagles to compete on one of Europe’s biggest stages and take the club to the next level.

The Europa Conference League is still a big deal, but the whole process of being pushed down a level has been a shambles for a club trying to build its stature. The work on the pitch under Glasner has been exceptional, and it’s a shame the same levels haven’t been reached off it.

Crystal Palace star pushes for transfer

In what was already a difficult week, news that defender Daniel Munoz is giving interviews trying to push for an exit from Selhurst Park has not made things any easier. Crystal Palace may have a reputation as a selling club, thanks to their impressive knack of bringing up Championship talent to the top flight, but for a first team player to be placing himself in the shop window like that is not a good look.

The right-back, who picked up the assist for Eberechi Eze’s FA Cup final winner, has turned heads with his transition to the Premier League since arriving from Genk two years ago. He signed a new deal in April, committing his future to the club until 2028.

Daniel Munoz wants Selhurst Park exit

Yet, speaking to Colombian outlet Win Sports TV this week, he said: "I want to play for the best teams in the world, but they haven't spoken to me directly. I dream and work every day to achieve it, and I hope it can happen as soon as possible. I hope it's in this window, but if not, I'm very happy at Crystal Palace."

Munoz may be deserving of a club that can offer Champions League football, and has been linked with Chelsea, but to be planting those seeds publicly is a foolish way to go about it. More than ever, Crystal Palace must look a club united and those quotes do not give that impression.

Glasner and the club should act decisively and ruthlessly. There should be serious talks with Munoz about how the effect of such statements and, ultimately, he should be sold. If Crystal Palace want to continue to grow, first team players must be fully invested in the mission at hand, and not daydreaming about the next jersey they will wear.
