Manchester United are arguably in need of a new striker this summer, and one is seemingly available for transfer. .

have been heavily linked with signing Gyokeres in the past, as the striker looks increasingly likely to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer. However, it seems that Arsenal are the most likely destination for Gyokeres if he was to leave the Primeira Liga outfit.

Speculation around United's need for a new striker has only intensified the rumours around the futures of existing members of the squad. and are United's current centre forwards, but a new signing being brought to Old Trafford would likely leave their futures in doubt.

Amid the speculation around his future, Gyokeres recently took part in an interview with L'Equipe where he offered hints about his future. When asked about the possibility of leaving Sporting, Gyokeres admitted: “Maybe.

“That's football, you never know. I don't think about it; we'll see what happens.

“If something happens, it will. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.”

Gyokeres even spoke about his feelings towards a move to the Premier League. And it seems that the Sporting star would like to return to England, with his exit from Coventry City taking place three years ago.

“It's one of the biggest leagues in Europe," said Gyokeres.

“I spent several years there without being able to play a single match. So, of course, it's something I'd like to do. It would be a great revenge!”

Rather interestingly, the interview with L'Equipe was published on July 12 - the day that Gyokeres was meant to return to pre-season training for Sporting. It's also been stated that the interview was conducted on July 7 - the original date that Gyokeres was meant to report back for training before being granted extra time off by the club.

There have since been various reports that Gyokeres has no plans to play for Sporting again as he pushes for a move to the Premier League, particularly to Arsenal. Sporting are thought to value Gyokeres at around £70million, and it still remains to be seen where he will be playing his football next term.

Given the timing of the interview that has now been published, you would be forgiven for believing that Gyokeres does not plan on playing for Sporting again anytime soon. Whether this will give United any hope of beating Arsenal to his signature, though, is another matter.

While United's search for a new striker goes on and Gyokeres' future is unresolved, there will always be speculation that a move to Old Trafford may not be completely out of the question.
