Anthony Elanga has instantly impressed the Newcastle United faithful with his mature and reassuring words since his £55m switch was confirmed on Friday evening - and the winger has sent an equally touching message to his former fans in Nottingham following his City Ground departure.

There was a feeling of dejection at Forest's training base on Saturday as Nuno Espirito Santo's side faced Chesterfield in a pre-season friendly.

Full-back - and part-time prankster - Ola Aina documented the scenes on his social media channels, zooming on team-mate Willy Boly as he sat on the floor, while narrating: "Where's Ant gone?"

Elanga was a popular member of the Forest camp and enjoyed a particularly close relationship with Aina after years of playing down the right flank together.

Taking to his own social media over the weekend, the new Newcastle favourite paid tribute to those who made his time at the City Ground so special.

"My Forest Family— it’s been real!" Elanga wrote on Instagram. "From day one, the love has been crazy and I felt it every time I stepped on that pitch.

"Grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the chance to wear that shirt with pride. Big love to my teammates, coaches & all the backroom staff , and to the City Ground faithful… you all made it special.

"I’ll never forget that feeling of walking out to your energy.

"Time for the next chapter. But this one? Forever in my heart. Thankyou @officialnffc YOU REDSSS."

Elanga is now preparing for pre-season with Eddie Howe's side after meeting his new co-stars on Tyneside this week. The Swede will begin his preparations in the coming days, with fans hopeful of seeing the flyer in action at Celtic Park next weekend.
