Sunday’s edition of [A Bola](http://abola.pt) has a headline shouting out: _‘BARRENECHEA IS THE CHOSEN ONE’_
The Aston Villa midfielder has been linked with a move to Benfica in recent days and their interest appears to be moving quickly. What could bring a pause to proceedings is Monchi asking for more than the Lisbon club want to pay, but we haven’t reached that hurdle yet.
A Bola report Benfica are trying to complete a deal for Enzo Barrenechea. There’s an awareness of interest from other clubs, and a belief that an investment of around €10m in the 24-year-old would be worth it.
The midfielder travelled back from Buenos Aires to Europe on Saturday, and he now wants to quickly sort out his future.
Over at [Record](http://record.pt) the transfer is at full speed ahead stage and it’s stated Benfica want it all sorted so Barrenechea can start training with them tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow! That is perhaps a little over optimistic, but it’s stated they want to close the transfer _‘very soon’._
Barrenechea has spent the past few weeks training in Argentina and in nearly every image has been wearing a piece of Valencia merchandise. He’s been comfortable at the Spanish club and his family were living in the city already, after his sister enrolled at university there before Enzo had even signed for Aston Villa.
Whether they can make a last minute attempt themselves remains to be seen.
