Callum Wilson Leeds United transfer latest as former Newcastle United man makes feelings clear

Callum Wilson's comments regarding his future make for interesting reading given links to Leeds United and the White' search for a new striker.

The former Newcastle United star is a free agent after leaving St. James' Park earlier this month and has been linked with a number of Premier League outfits following his departure.

It's not surprising that Daniel Farke's side are among those to have been linked with the former England international given their desire to improve their forward line.

Leeds Live has taken a look at the latest regarding Wilson's future and speculation linking him with Leeds United.

Wilson makes feelings clear

The former Newcastle striker has made it clear that he won't be signing for a club where he'll be playing second fiddle and wants to be a regular starter at whatever team he decides to join.

"I had an amazing five years at Newcastle but football moves on so quickly," he told the I Paper. "I’m at a point in my career now where I’m 33, I still have so much to give, but I’ve not been able to show it.

"When you’re coming on for five, 10 minutes here and there within a game everyone thinks that you can’t play longer than that," he said. "Everyone thinks ‘he’s losing a yard of pace’, all these other things, but obviously coming on as a substitute is completely different to starting a game.

"When you come on as a sub it’s so hard to catch a second wind and before you know it the game is over. That was the only thing for me. I still feel I can offer so much.

"I had conversations with the manager [Eddie Howe] and we established that I’m not at a point mentally where I’m ready to sit on the bench and play No 2 for the whole season. I don’t mind yo-yoing here and there but it’s got to be a fair fight."

Burnley 'interest' in striker

The Telegraph reported that fellow newly promoted side Burnley are also interested in a move for Wilson this summer. Free agents Jamie Vardy and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also been linked with a move to Turf Moor, but the Clarets are also said to be keen on a move for Genk’s Tolu Arokodare for a reported fee of £25million.

Wilson's comments about not playing as number two for the whole season may impact his decision to move to Burnley, should Scott Parker's side splash the cash on Arokadare.

Spending that much money on a striker to sit on the bench makes little sense.
