Preston North End continue their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign on Sunday by hosting Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Deepdale.

All eyes are firmly fixed on that Saturday, August 9 start date for the new Championship season. Paul Heckingbottom's men travel to QPR that day and the hope will be fixtures played over the summer can be foundations for a year spent fighting in the upper end of the table rather than narrowly avoiding relegation, as was the case in 2024/25.

So, following a 1-0 win over Chorley at Victory Park, the Lilywhites return home for the toughest test in the land - facing the reigning Premier League champions.

Liverpool's involvement means this fixture now holds a heavy emotional weight. It is the first time Arne Slot's team will play since the tragic passing of their striker Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva, 25, at the beginning of the month.

It was decided the friendly would go ahead and now poignant tributes have been planned to honour the footballers' lives.

The friendly between Preston and Liverpool is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off on Sunday, July 13 at Deepdale, the home of the Championship club, in Lancashire.

Tributes to Jota and Silva are to begin at 2:50pm, ten minutes before kick-off.

Claudia Rose Maguire – wife of former Preston player Sean – will first sing a rendition of Can’t Help Falling In Love, which will then be followed by Liverpool’s anthem of You’ll Never Walk Alone. While the latter is sung, North End captain Ben Whiteman will lay a wreath in front of the visiting supporters in the Bill Shankly Kop.

During the minute’s silence, digital tributes will be displayed on the big screen and across LEDs at Deepdale.

Both sets of players will also wear black armbands in honour of Liverpool striker Jota and Silva, who was a player at Portuguese side Penafiel.

Preston have also created a commemorative 16-page matchday programme that features written tributes to the brothers and will be free for all in attendance.

Is Preston North End vs Liverpool being shown live on TV?

The friendly between Preston and Liverpool will be shown live on ITV1, meaning it will be free to watch for all UK viewers. ITV1 can be accessed through Freeview, Sky TV, Virgin Media and EE TV, and the programme is to begin at 2.40pm, 20 minutes before kick-off.

Commentary will be provided by Joe Speight, who will be joined by former Reds defender Stephen Warnock. Fans can expect the final whistle around 4.50pm and ITV's programme will wrap up at 5.10pm.

Preston vs Liverpool will also be shown live on LFCTV, which requires a subscription, on Sky TV and Virgin Media. Liverpool's coverage gets underway at the earlier time of 2.15pm and finishes at 5.15pm.

The game is also being shown live in Portugal on SportTV1, with coverage beginning at 2:45pm.
