This offseason has been relatively quiet for the Philadelphia Eagles. Very little drama outside of the C.J. Gardner-Johnson temper tantrum of being traded and Bryce Huff being traded as well. And of course, the Tush Push ban.
That may not last long.
One of the biggest storylines entering NFL training camps is the fact that 30 of the 32 second-round picks of the 2025 NFL Draft have gone unsigned. This is due to second-rounders wanting a fully guaranteed contract after Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins and Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger got it in their deals.
Who is one of those second-rounders not signed with about a week to go before training camp? Eagles' second-round safety Andrew Mukuba.
Eagles starting to face worrisome issue with Mukuba unsigned
This originally wasn't a concern as Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has always been good about signing rookies to contracts even if it was in June. The problem could be that sources told NFL insider Ian Rapoport that Los Angeles Chargers second round pick wide receiver Tre Harris officially going to be holding out of training camp.
The deadline for #Chargers rookies to report is upon us and second round WR Tre Harris is officially a holdout, sources say.

Philadelphia cannot afford to have Mukuba sit out as he is seen as a legitimate contender to win one of the safety jobs. He is facing off against Sydney Brown and Tristin McCollum as the team looks to replace Gardner-Johnson.
Mukuba feels like a guy who could be in line to start after his stellar 2024 season with the Texas Longhorns last year. He made 69 tackles, four tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 15 games.
The Eagles are hoping that Mukuba doesn't follow in Harris' footsteps, as he will play a significant role in the team's defense. Mukuba has been getting praised by multiple teammates, like wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
During offseason workouts, Mukuba and Brown were mostly splitting the first-team reps, which has led many to believe they are the favorites. Neither guy has done enough to separate themselves, with training camp being the deciding factor.
Mukuba not being at training camp would more than likely lock in Brown as the starter going into the regular season. It's understandable why Mukuba would wait it out, as if two players in the same round as him get a fully guaranteed deal, he should too.

It's just unfortunate that this contract situation could linger into training camp. Eagles fans hope to get it resolved so Mukuba can get the proper development he needs to become a potential starter in 2025.
