**Former Newcastle United hero Andy Carroll is back in Blighty after a two-year spell playing in France's second tier.**
The Geordie made the decision to move back to England to be closer to his family, and then rumours began to swirl that the Football League's newest professional club, Chelmsford City, were going to snap up the veteran striker.
The rumours were almost right as Carroll has now signed up to play in the sixth tier of English football, but it will not be with Chelmsford.
Carroll will be playing in the National League South with Dagenham & Redbridge, who dropped an announcement video yesterday confirming Carroll's arrival along with new investors and a new home kit.

Andy Carroll is in it for the love of the game, and we respect that

In an interview with Sky Sports, Carroll claimed he was having offers from higher up the football pyramid, but for him, it is all about getting on the pitch and showing what he can do.
> "It doesn't matter the level, or anything, as long as I get on the pitch and play football, that's all that matters."Coming here and showing people I am just playing for the love of football rather than the money and the level is something I wanted to do.

> "This is something which could be fantastic. We have a project to get them out of non-league and back up the leagues."

Can we get Dagenham & Redbridge in the cup, please?

We love to see the lack of ego by the former Magpie, who is still Newcastle's record highest sale when he moved to Liverpool for £35 million. Elliot Anderson's move to Nottingham Forest equalled that deal, but he's still top of the pile.
Now that the Daggers have Qatari money and Andy Carrol,l should we be expecting a meteoric rise through the ranks?
Whatever happens, we wish Carroll the best of luck in his new venture.
