James Trafford is due back with Burnley in the coming days as Scott Parker's side prepare for their Premier League return. This, as Newcastle United attempt to close the gap between the two clubs in transfer negotiations.
Trafford is keen to join the St James' Park revolution, while Burnley have signed a potential replacement in the form of goalkeeper Max Weiss - but a fee is yet to be agreed for the England international.
As it stands, Trafford will be back in training this week after an extended break as Burnley prepare for clashes with Huddersfield Town and Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, July 26.
Speaking this weekend after his side's behind closed doors clash with Fleetwood Town, Parker said: "It’s been good, it’s been a good first couple of weeks to be honest with you.
"I’ve been pleased with the players that have come in and the lads have worked really, really hard. It will be a good week for us to get together as a group.
"We will get the lads in and some of the other boys will be joining us who have been given some extra time due to internationals, but I’m looking forward to it.”
Burnley signed Weiss from Bundesliga II club Karlsruher for a fee of £4.3m and the German stopper is already plotting his Premier League journey this season after making his debut for the Clarets this weekend.
"It was always a dream for me to play in England and to be in the Premier League, so it’s a dream come true," Weiss admitted in recent days. "Now I’m really happy to be here and being in the Premier League is the best part of it.”
Chronicle Live understands Newcastle and Burnley are edging "closer" to an agreement after weeks of talks. The Magpies are also on the hunt for additional attacking reinforcements after securing a deal for Anthony Elanga.
