The 21-year-old has had previous spells with Granada, Atletico Madrid and Alaves prior to joining Porto last year, as he bagged 27 goals and three assists in 45 appearances last season.

That club form has earned him two caps for Spain at senior level, and so it appears as though the talented youngster has a bright future ahead of him as he continues to impress while leading the line for the Portuguese giants.
As per [A Bola](https://www.abola.pt/futebol/noticias/samu-ameaca-da-premier-league-impulsionou-compra-recorde-2025071214353280767), Porto have bought the frontman outright this summer and intend on keeping him at the club, but the move to spend a significant fee to sign the remainder of his rights is also considered a key strategy to strengthen their position in the event of a sale.
It’s added that Villa continue to have Aghehowa on our transfer shortlist, with Unai Emery said to have monitored his progression and development and he remains an admirer of his talents.
Time will tell if that touted interest evolves into an offer being submitted to advance our pursuit, but it certainly sounds as though Villa have identified a top target to bolster our attacking options and add more firepower up front.
With Ollie Watkins as our only option to lead the line as the squad currently stands, it’s undoubtedly an area in which we need to strengthen ahead of the upcoming campaign to ensure that we have enough competition and depth to compete across multiple fronts.
Further, although Watkins has shown that he’s more than capable of continuing to play a pivotal role for Emery, a long-term replacement will eventually be needed and after selling Jhon Duran, perhaps Villa have now identified a more suitable candidate in Aghehowa to fill that void.
Given the fees involved in his move to Porto, it’s likely to be an expensive deal should Villa step up their pursuit, but it’s vital that we continue to not only improve the squad with short-term ambition in mind, but also build for the long run too and Aghehowa would certainly tick the second box, if not both already at this stage of his career.
