Memphis Grizzlies star admitted he was caught off guard when he first heard the news, as the trade quickly spread across social media.
"I was shocked, personally," Morant said, per Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "I got the message from Des. To see it all over the internet, I thought the trade was fake, honestly."
Despite the shock, Morant believes the trade benefits both sides. "It's best for both sides. Des is going to a very talented Orlando team. I feel like he's the piece that they've been missing," he added.
Bane played a key role for Memphis last season, averaging 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists while shooting an efficient 48.4% from the field and 39.2% from three-point range.
He helped lead the Grizzlies to a 48-34 record and an 8th seed in the playoffs, although they were swept in the first round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
