Off the pitch, there has been a number of departures at Newcastle United over the past few years, whether it be executives or coaching staff within our Academy.
Paul Mitchell and Dan Ashworth have both come and gone in that sporting director role, Amanda Staveley left last summer with Mehrdad Ghodoussi, and Darren Eales will step down soon when a new CEO is recruited.
On the touchline, we’re also on the lookout for a new under-21 boss, with Diarmuid O’Carroll leaving for Czech side Sparta Prague last month after just one season at the club.
An update has now arrived on our search for a new manager of our under-21s, which is an absolutely crucial role that needs some stability as we look to develop that pathway from youth football to Eddie Howe’s senior side.
In a post on X this afternoon, The Mail’s Craig Hope reports that our search has ben whittled down to four final candidates, which includes former Man Utd under-18s boss Adam Lawrence and our current under-21 assistant, Robbie Stockdale.
The other two in the running are not yet known, but Lawrence is seeking a new challenge after leaving Man Utd in May, while Stockdale has impressed on Tyneside since arriving earlier this year.
45-year-old Stockdale has had spells at Middlesbrough and Sunderland, taking charge of the latter on more than one occasions in a caretaker manager role.
