Bayern Munich transfer interest in a Chelsea defender could kickstart a Premier League transfer deal.
Chelsea could face a transfer bid from German giants Bayern Munich for full-back Malo Gusto this summer, and if they do that would surely send the Blues knocking on the door of Crystal Palace.
L’Equipe reports that Bayern Munich have enquired about Gusto’s availability over a potential transfer. The 22-year-old is currently in the USA with Chelsea and is involved in Club World Cup action.
Gusto arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2023 for €30 million but was loaned back to French outfit Lyon for the rest of that season. He has since become a regular at Chelsea, making 84 appearances for the club with 11 assists to his name. He has played six times at the Club World Cup.
Bayern Munich enquire over Chelsea defender
Bayern Munich are in the market for a right-back this summer with Sacha Boey expected to leave the Allianz Arena for Marseille or Galatasaray. Gusto could be viewed as the ideal replacement.
Selling Gusto would leave a hole for Maresca and Chelsea to fill. The defender made 32 Premier League appearances last season but did lose some minutes towards the end of the campaign when Maresca experimented with Moises Caicedo at full-back.
Should Gusto leave for Bayern Munich, then Chelsea could find a ready-made replacement in Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz. The Blues were linked with the player earlier this year but those transfer links had since died out.
Crystal Palace man could be ideal Gusto replacement
However, just this week Munoz appeared to place himself in the shop window for a transfer with Crystal Palace demoted from the Europa League to the Europa Conference League. Speaking to Colombian outlet Win Sports TV this week, Munoz said: "I want to play for the best teams in the world, but they haven't spoken to me directly. I dream and work every day to achieve it, and I hope it can happen as soon as possible. I hope it's in this window, but if not, I'm very happy at Crystal Palace."
The 29-year-old has impressed since his move to Selhurst Park, taking to the Premier League with ease. His penchant for attacking runs and capability at full-back would likely see him easily transition into the style of play at Chelsea.
It remains to be seen how Crystal Palace handle Munoz’s transfer talk with the defender a vital part of Oliver Glasner’s work. The defender made 37 Premier League appearances last term and picked up the vital assist for Eberechi Eze’s winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Munoz scored four goals in the top flight last year, including finishes against Newcastle United and Manchester City. He played 90 minutes in both of the 1-1 draws against the Blues last season.
In other news, Crystal Palace must be ruthless and axe foolish player after what he just did - opinion.
