Report: Manchester United bid for £26m-rated 'freak athlete' wanted by Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are going to be going in search of new players before the 2025/26 campaign gets underway.

Forest sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle recently and Morgan Gibbs-White may also be about to sign for Tottenham in the coming days.

That will leave Forest seriously short across the pitch and new players are going to be added to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad to spruce things up.

Forest have added Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha to their squad so far this summer, but more new faces are being identified ahead of the season.

Manchester United want Richard Rios

Forest had been looking to raid Brazil again for the signing of Colombian star Richard Rios who currently plays for Palmeiras.

However, nothing has been considered to be close and now, United are keen to sign the player valued at around £26 million, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Rios has been considered a very sought-after player this summer and Roma are thought to be keen on his services too.

If Forest were to sign another central midfielder, quite clearly, there would be a change in system for Nuno Espirito Santo, given the options available in the engine room.

Rios has been with Palmeiras for two years after arriving from Guarani. In 137 appearances for the Brazilian outfit, he’s scored 11 goals and claimed 10 assists as a defensive midfielder.

Forest won’t view Rios as a priority signing

The Reds will want another central midfielder this summer, but it’s highly unlikely that one will be viewed as an immediate concern.

Forest have a number of players who can play in midfield and with Elanga leaving and Gibbs-White possibly on the move too, attackers are the order of the day.

Rios is clearly a good player and there is absolutely no surprise to see United looking at him as they look to improve after a truly horrendous season in 2024/25.

Forest are right to be taking a look at a player who has been called a ‘freak athlete’ previously and perhaps the club will continue to keep an eye on him this summer.
