Leeds United transfer twist as Premier League rivals strike agreement over £19m move

Leeds United looked to have missed out on one of their summer transfer targets.

The Whites, who have been involved in ongoing discussions for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff over the last week, have brought in four new players so far this summer, with the Premier League season fast approaching.

But given Daniel Farke's hopes of bringing in further fresh faces, it seems one rival has grabbed the upper hand over the weekend.

As called first by journalist Santi Aouna, Slavia Prague left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf looks to be heading to West Ham United.

Later relayed by Fabrizio Romano, the Senegal international will sign a deal worth in the region of £19 million, plus add-ons, at the London Stadium.

Atalanta and Leeds had been mentioned as previously interested parties, with LeedsLive having stood up the supposed interest.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a brilliant season in the Czech Republic, and his performances have caught the attention of Graham Potter and the Hammers this summer.

Diouf's move will come as a bitter blow, especially given that left-back Junior Firpo left the club just a few weeks ago.

Slavia Prague boss Jindřich Trpišovský told the media recently he expected the defender to move on, given he had not featured in his side's three pre-season friendlies.

Trpišovský told Czech outlet Idnes: "[The situation] is still the same. We all suspect that a transfer will happen, it's just a matter of time. Malick has an individual program, we don't want anything to happen.

“He is a player who has extraordinary quality, he will have it in the future. Slavia's demands need to be satisfied. We take it as we are without him.”

Leeds instead decided to sign Sweden star Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille, who penned a four-year deal at Elland Road just last week.
