Arsenal academy graduate Remy Mitchell has made a surprising return to the club, re-signing ahead of the 2025/26 season, as reported by Jeorge Bird on July 8, 2025.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who left Arsenal in 2022 after his contract expired, was spotted training with the U18 squad and participated in the academy photocall, donning the number 47 shirt.
His re-signing marks a remarkable homecoming for the Hale End product, who first joined the club at age eight.

Mitchell’s return follows stints at Swansea City, Haringey Borough, and Aylesbury United, where he played in the eighth tier of English football during the 2024/25 season.
Despite his departure three years ago, Remy Mitchell remained an Arsenal fan, attending both legs of the Gunners’ Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

His presence in pre-season training initially appeared to be a fitness exercise, but his inclusion in the photocall and squad number allocation confirm a formal return.

As an U21-eligible player, Remy Mitchell does not occupy a senior squad spot, providing Arsenal with flexibility. With David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga set to dominate first-team minutes, Mitchell’s role could involve supporting the U21s or acting as a third-choice goalkeeper for matchday squads.
This move may also facilitate loan opportunities for other young keepers like Karl Hein, Tommy Setford, or Lucas Nygaard, as Arsenal manage their goalkeeping depth.
Mitchell’s journey mirrors Arsenal’s commitment to nurturing academy talent, even those who take detours. His 25 U18 appearances and early U21 call-ups as a schoolboy highlight his potential, and fans will be intrigued to see if he can revive his career at the Emirates.
As Mikel Arteta’s squad prepares for a pivotal season, Remy Mitchell return adds depth and a feel-good story to Arsenal’s Hale End legacy.
