Suddenly from nowhere yesterday the ‘West Ham links with Brazilian Douglas Luiz‘ story broke as multiple sources claimed that the Hammers were in fact in ‘advanced’ talks to bring the Brazilian midfielder back to the EPL. The story suggested that Luiz, 27, who only departed Aston Villa last summer for £42 million for Juventus, could be headed to West Ham.
Almost as fast as the story broke, so a West Ham spokesman, apparently stated that it was ‘not true’ that a deal was imminent. And yet, the Luiz to West Ham rumours have refused to go away and one cannot help but wonder if it is a case of ‘no smoke without fire’: Even this morning birminghammail.co.uk ran their story entitled:
“Fresh twist in Douglas Luiz transfer chase amid Aston Villa claim as rivals lead £25m hunt”:

After Luiz’ nightmare season with just three starts for Juventus, the claims just won’t die that West Ham, Everton and Villa themselves are all vieing to bring Luiz’ back to the Premier League. West Ham were quoted as negotiating a loan with obligation to buy, pushing the bulk of the fee for the talented midfielder twelve months down the line in a Todibo-like fee arrangement.
Whilst officially it may be ‘not true’ that a deal is [yet] in its final stages, don’t rule out a serious West Ham push for an agreement for Luiz. I suspect there may be much more to come on this story in the next few days.
