Manchester United star rejects Saudi move to focus on Barcelona

Manchester United might want to make reinforcements to the squad this summer but one arguably even bigger and more difficult task on their hands is moving on players who don’t have a future under Ruben Amorim. This includes academy graduate and poster boy Marcus Rashford.

The #10 has been a key part of the Man Utd team for quite a few seasons now, before he fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa where he gave a good account of himself before injuries started playing spoilsport.

Rashford is now looking to move on from Old Trafford once and for all this summer. As per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Manchester United star has rejected a move to an unnamed Saudi Arabia club to focus on his dream move to Barcelona.

Rashford wants Barcelona

While the report mentions that the aforementioned Saudi club has approached Rashford with a financially lucrative package, the Englishman has made it very clear that his priority lies in joining Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, having recently followed the likes of Pedri and Robert Lewandowski on Instagram.

Barcelona have been actively pursuing a move for the Englishman and the player is willing to make the move happen, making this a very realistic possibility. Incidentally, having come through the academy, this could be one of the very few sales that Man Utd end up making a profit on, this summer.

Forever a fan favourite?

Rashford has enjoyed some memorable moments in a Red Devils jersey. He has had seasons where he has looked unstoppable, scoring goals for fun but these have been few and far. Considering he is a significant earner in the squad, it makes sense that Man Utd want to move him on to make space for reinforcements.

Man Utd fans will always have a special place in their hearts for Rashford. Having come through the academy and made a name for himself, the 27-year-old has always had the crowd behind him and every Red Devil will be bidding goodbye with a teared heart this summer.

As for the player himself, he will be moving to his next club with a point to prove. It helps that it is a World Cup year and the stakes are high and Rashford will be determined to prove himself and get back into the England scheme of things in the upcoming season. Let’s wait and see where his career takes him next.
