Arsenal are on the brink of landing Viktor Gyokeres after making a decisive push in negotiations with Sporting CP to sign the prolific Sweden international striker, per [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6476054/2025/07/13/arsenal-viktor-gyokeres-transfer/).
The Gunners have taken formal steps to close the gap on a deal, having long identified [Gyokeres](https://footballtoday.com/2025/07/10/arsenal-set-to-abandon-viktor-gyokeres-pursuit/) as their top centre-forward target.
While talks have been drawn out, the latest Arsenal offer exceeds the €60 million plus €10 million add-ons that Gyokeres believed would trigger his Sporting exit clause.
Club president Frederico Varandas has held out for a higher figure, but the revised Arsenal bid is now believed to be within striking distance of a breakthrough.
Gyokeres is the centre-forward Arsenal have been missing as they bid to end their 21-year wait for a Premier League title.
The North Londoners have finished second for three successive seasons and need a lethal striker to push them over the line. They have turned to the former Coventry City hitman.
If Arsenal eventually land the Gyokeres, who delivered 54 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances for Sporting CP, they must consider selling Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz this summer.
The former spent a chunk of the season sidelined and has been battling niggling injury issues since he moved to the Emirates Stadium. The time to cash in is now.
Havertz’s inability to perform in midfield forced manager Mikel Arteta to chuck him into the centre-forward position, but his profligacy has cost the Gunners points.
Arsenal need to seize any opportunity to sell the German and use whatever fee they get from his sale and that of Jesus to further reinforce the centre-forward position.
Arsenal need to take a bet on a potent, young centre-forward that can lead the line in the absence of Gyokeres, allowing Mikel Merino to perform in his natural midfield position.
