Man Utd make contact to sign 'unbelievable' Premier League star as club set £60m demand -…

Manchester United have reportedly added Nicolas Jackson to their shortlist of strikers and Chelsea are prepared to sell the Senegalese striker.

French journalist Nabil Djellit reports that United are one of several English clubs who have made inquiries about the 24-year-old. He looks to have lost his starting role in Enzo Maresca's side following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Jackson is the latest number nine to emerge as a potential target for the Red Devils after Ruben Amorim missed out on Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, who is eager to join Arsenal. The Senegal international's Stamford Bridge future is in doubt after he was sent off in the Blues' only defeat in their FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Jackson has had a topsy-turvy time at Chelsea since arriving from Villarreal in July 2023 for £30m. United swooped for Rasmus Hojlund that same summer, and the forward duo's top-flight exploits have since been compared.

The Red Devils appear to be positioning themselves as one of the contenders to sign the forward amid growing uncertainty over his future. Djellit wrote on X:

"The door is open for Nicolas Jackson for around €70M for Chelsea. A decision will be made after the (FIFA Club World Cup). He could stay or leave... Some English clubs have made inquiries (Aston Villa, Manchester United, etc.). In Italy, Naples is interested."

United are being cautious with their spending this summer following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. They are paying £62.5m for the Brazilian attacker in instalments while also pursuing Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.

Romano confirmed that a deal is still on for Mbeumo ,but they have so far failed with two bids worth up to £62.5m. They are also looking to sign a new centre-forward after Hojlund's struggles in front of goal last season.

Chelsea's €70m (£60m) asking price could prove an issue given the club's budget and the potential need for a new goalkeeper. Andre Onana has sustained a hamstring injury and the Cameroonian shot-stopper will miss pre-season.

Jackson, dubbed "unbelievable" by Peter Crouch, offers versatility, as he can play out wide alongside leading the line, having managed 10 goals in last season's Premier League. He signed a two-year contract extension in September, which expires in 2033, but the Blues' recruitment suggests his first-team opportunities may be limited.
