Arsenal have been busy in the summer transfer window, as they attempt to perfect their squad in time for the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Fans are dying for a trophy, with a drought lasting since 2020, and Mikel Arteta is continuously under more and more pressure to clinch a piece of silverware. A mere domestic tournament victory may not be enough to silence the critics: Arteta needs a league title or a European cup. The news that Arsenal are nearing an agreement for Viktor Gyokeres will give fans and the manager a lot more hope in these efforts.

Gunners ‘Willing’ to Near Asking Price
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal are “getting closer” to an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for their striker, Gyokeres. The fee has been a problem for this whole saga, with a gentleman’s agreement reportedly broken between the player and his club for a ~£65 million exit fee. This may have put off other suitors like Manchester United.

However, the negotiations appear to be going well as Romano reports that the Gunners are now “willing” to get closer to the asking price of a £60 million up-front fee alongside almost £9 million in add-ons. Fans will be begging for the board to just reach these demands, as Arsenal have been crying out for a striker for years. This would be a “dream” transfer, fixing Arteta’s biggest problem and arguably putting them in a great position to contend for the league.

Arsenal Mean Business
Arsenal have been incredibly active in this window already, as they appear to want to be ready for the start of the new season. Their not participating in the Club World Cup may have helped with this. The London outfit have already completed a huge signing in Martin Zubimendi, and two important squad incomings in Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga. As mentioned, they intend to complete a Mosquera deal soon.
