Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has spent the last season playing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, but Chris Wheatley revealed in early July that the club were in talks with the striker over a mutual termination of his contract.

Sebastien Denis of Foot Mercato then revealed that Marseille were in contact with Aubameyang over a potential return to the club. The striker spent one season with Marseille in 2023/24, scoring 30 goals in 51 games in all competitions.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that negotiations are now underway between Marseille and Aubameyang, adding that Al-Qadsiah have given the green light to a contract termination. Marseille are reportedly offering a two-year contract to Aubameyang.

RMC Sport (via GFFN) report that Aubameyang still needs to complete his contract termination with his current club, but talks are now advanced over his new deal with Marseille.

Aubameyang’s desire to return may be partly due to Marseille’s return to the Champions League. The striker played Europa League football with the club in 2023/24, and they failed to qualify for any European competition ahead of 2024/25.

But after a second-place finish last season, Marseille will now return to the Champions League, offering Aubameyang a comeback after just one previous season in the competition in the last seven years.
