Viktor Gyökeres and his agent, Hasan Çetinkaya, have reportedly made significant financial sacrifices to ensure the Swedish striker’s blockbuster move to Arsenal is completed, according to Portuguese outletRecord.
The Gunners are now edging closer to finalising a deal for the prolific Sporting CP forward after a prolonged period of negotiations. Gyökeres, 27, is said to have agreed to forgo €2 million (£1.7 million) in wages, while his agent has waived a substantial commission fee. These concessions have allowed Arsenal to stay within budget while meeting Sporting’s €80 million valuation, €70 million in fixed fees plus €10 million in performance-related add-ons.
The dramatic gesture has helped bridge a previously wide financial gap and brings the Premier League club significantly closer to securing their top attacking target. Tensions had recently flared between Gyökeres and Sporting president Frederico Varandas, who the striker accused of reneging on a verbal agreement to sanction a €60m+€10m move.

Adding to the momentum, journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Arsenal are expected to pay an initial €63.5 million, with a further €10 million in bonuses, as Sporting will no longer need to cover a 10% agent commission originally built into their asking price.

Gyökeres’ determination to join Arsenal has been evident throughout the saga. The striker has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and was absent from Sporting’s pre-season return on July 12, an act that led to disciplinary action and a fine. However, Record reports that tensions have since eased and optimism is growing around the deal’s completion.
Instrumental in the breakthrough has been Arsenal’s newly appointed sporting director, Andrea Berta, who has taken the lead in the latest phase of negotiations and helped bring both clubs closer to agreement.

Gyökeres, who netted an astonishing 54 goals in 52 games last term and has scored 97 in 102 matches for Sporting since arriving from Coventry City in 2023, has become renowned for his power, pressing intensity, and direct style, often compared to a “battering ram.”
