Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer 'agreed' as Sporting 'confirm price to pay'

Viktor Gyokeres' move to Arsenal is all but completed as Sporting CP reportedly confirm an agreement with the Gunners.

Arsenal have been chasing the Swedish striker all summer, with Manchester United also reportedly hunting for his signature. However, the Gunners appear to have won that race, with reports suggesting Sporting have confirmed the deal.

According to The Athletic's transfer guru David Ornstein, Sporting have confirmed a deal in principle is in place. Arsenal will pay €63.5million (£54.8m) upfront plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons. Gyokeres' agent has waived his fee to help get the deal across the line.

The report adds that talks had been prolonged by Sporting president Frederico Varandas after he refused to accept Gyokeres' believed agreement of €60m plus €10m of add-ons.

It resulted in a public spat between the pair, with Gyokeres threatening to go on strike as Varandas told the media: "I want to make one thing clear: we at Sporting have common sense.

"We said two things (at the start of the season): that we would not demand €100million and that the value would depend on the performance of Viktor.

"How did he perform? Sixty-three goals, 17 assists (for club and country), fantastic form, one of the best seasons in the history of Portuguese football.

"Even then, Sporting will not demand his release clause. But people should know that threats, blackmail and insults will not work with me. I can guarantee one thing: Viktor Gyokeres won't leave here for €60m plus €10m in add-ons.

"He won't, and the game the agent is playing will only make the situation worse. As of now, we haven't had one offer for him."
