Arsenal have taken a major step toward strengthening their frontline with a deal in principle agreed for the transfer of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, according to The Athletic’sDavid Ornstein.
The agreement will see the Gunners pay a €63.5 million (£54.8m, $74.2m) fixed fee, with an additional €10 million (£8.6m, $11.7m) in performance-related add-ons, potentially taking the total deal to €73.5 million.
The 27-year-old Swedish striker has been a long-standing target for Arsenal, who have made securing a proven goalscorer a top priority this summer. Gyökeres’ explosive form in Portugal, where he has consistently delivered goals and standout performances for Sporting, made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.

Gyökeres has seen his reputation skyrocket since his move from Coventry City to Sporting in 2023. With a combination of pace, physicality, and clinical finishing, the Swede has been likened to some of Europe’s top forwards. Arsenal fans will be hoping he can replicate that prolific form in the Premier League.

The arrival of Gyökeres would send a clear message of Arsenal’s intent to challenge at the top of English and European football next season. He is expected to slot into an attack already featuring the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Ødegaard, providing the kind of central goalscoring presence the team has lacked in recent campaigns.
If finalised, the deal would not only mark one of Arsenal’s biggest signings of the summer but also a statement acquisition that could play a decisive role in the club’s push for silverware in 2025/26.
