Dallas Mavericks have signed guard D’Angelo Russell.
Russell appeared in 58 games for the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets during the 2024–25 season, averaging 12.6 points, 5.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steal. Known for his pick-and-roll savvy and perimeter shooting throughout his career, Russell brings a steady hand to the Mavericks’ offense as they navigate Kyrie Irving’s absence.

Over his nine-year career, Russell holds averages of 17.3 points, 5.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 29.8 minutes across 629 games (536 starts) with the Lakers, Nets, Warriors, and Timberwolves.
Russell has an opportunity to revitalize his career and play a key role while Irving recovers from injury. Signed to a team-friendly deal, Russell is expected to start early in the season and lead the second unit when Irving returns. Russell’s arrival in Dallas fills a void at the guard position and gives the Mavs a proven scorer and playmaker to help stabilize the backcourt.
With Russell’s experience, playmaking, and ability to score, he can help steady the backcourt and support new franchise cornerstone Anthony Davis and the rest of deep roster. If Russell buys into his role and regains his shooting consistency, he could become a key long-term asset. His addition gives the Mavericks a critical boost as they aim to stay afloat in the competitive Western Conference. during Irving’s recovery.
