A man was caught driving at 111mph on the A96.

Diogo Monteiro (36) was spotted travelling at excessive speeds on the 60mph road between Inverness and Nairn on September 29, last year.

Fiscal depute Sophie Marshall told Sheriff Donald Ferguson at Inverness Sheriff Court: “At around 10.30pm police witnesses were on patrol near Gollanfield.

“They observed an Audi S6 travelling at speed and well over the limit of 60mph.

“They used the speed detector device to see that the car was travelling at 111mph.

“Traffic was light and there was no traffic in front. It was dark and there were no street lights.

“Police witnesses caught up with the vehicle where he was cautioned and charged.”

Monteiro, of Seabank Road, Nairn, pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit.

Sheriff Ferguson disqualified him from driving for four months and fined him a total of £285 due to the early plea.
