REGGAE BOY and West Ham striker Michail Antonio is mourning the death of his mother, Ceslyn, who died after battling a long-term illness.
Antonio shared the news via Instagram yesterday.
“Hello mum, it’s your baby boy here. Your time in this world has come to an end. The last five years it’s been difficult seeing you sat in bed and not being able to walk. But nothing could ever prepare me for you leaving me,” he posted in a story.
There is a silver lining for the Reggae Boy striker, who says he is grateful that she is no longer restricted by her illness.
“It hurts, you not being here, but at least you are no longer in pain, and you’re no longer restricted to a bed, and you can see us all now, you’re free now,” Antonio said.
Antonio often mentioned how his mother encouraged him to balance his football career with his education.
His mother’s death comes just weeks after returning to the field following a car accident which caused him to be hospitalised for three weeks, and then put through intensive physical therapy that left him out of football for almost the entirety of last season.
His supporters have since been sending well wishes.
