The deal includes a fixed fee of €63.5m along with €10m in performance-based add-ons. After weeks of back-and-forth talks, the North London club made decisive progress. It was helped by Gyokeres’ agent waiving his commission to push the transfer over the line.

Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas had initially resisted the move. He was holding out for more than the €60m plus €10m add-ons. But, **the Gunners**‘ higher bid convinced the Portuguese side. Gyokeres has skipped pre-season training with Sporting. He is eager to join Mikel Arteta’s squad and a five-year contract is ready.

Arteta has made signing a natural No. 9 a top priority after his team struggled without one last season. The Gunners used Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as the main striker. But, both have been injured at the time. That led to a lack of firepower for the Gunners at a very important period of the season.

Gyokeres Set to Slot for Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres enjoyed a successful season with Sporting across all competitions. That also includes helping them win the league and cup. The Swede has been one of the top targets in Europe. His high work rate and instinct to score goals made him an ideal candidate for the Premier League.

When Gyokeres made it clear that he wanted to play at the Emirates, Arsenal staved off competition from other rival European sides. The forward is also on fire for his nation, scoring 15 goals in 26 games.

The club is showing real intent to go one better after finishing second last season. With a top-class striker finally secured, Arsenal will hope to bridge the gap to title rivals Liverpool.
