Monchi playing waiting game with Aston Villa player – Not convinced with offers

Two days ago, we covered claims from Portugal which stated Benfica could battle it out with FC Porto to sign Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea this summer.

On Sunday, A Bola and Record reported Benfica were keen on a rapid deal to secure the midfielder’s services. There was even talk of him arriving at Benfica today.

Monday’s edition of Marca plays down the Aston Villa player’s immediate sale to Benfica.

The Villans are prioritising a sale and have set a €12m price for the Argentine, who moved to Villa Park a year ago. He spent last season on loan at Valencia, who are still keen on extending his stay, but are unable to meet Aston Villa’s request.

If Benfica, Porto or another club don’t meet Aston Villa’s demand, it could open the door for Los Ches to sign the 24-year-old on a new loan deal towards the end of this window.

Online, Marca add Benfica and Porto have so far shown the most interest in the player, but neither have come close to Aston Villa’s requests.

Last month, the Premier League club’s director, Monchi, said there were several clubs keen on signing the Argentine. Therefore, the Spanish newspaper states is Monchi are willing to wait, likely to see if a club can match the asking price.

If Aston Villa’s request isn’t met, it could open the door for Valencia to sign on a new loan deal. This will only happen towards the end of the window and Barrenechea’s return to Mestalla, for now, seems like a long shot.
