Leeds United found themselves in a lot of trouble last season due to the squad size. Daniel Farke has always preferred a smaller group of players, but the previous campaign may change his mind.
Last season, Farke relied on a core of players. 11 Leeds United stars started 30 or more games in the Championship. In the long run, it paid off as the club won the league. But in the middle of the campaign, injuries to key players disrupted the momentum. Especially in midfield when Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev were ruled out for months.

Sean Longstaff has been the subject of interest for weeks. Leeds United had their third bid for the Newcastle star rejected last week.
The Whites had £10million + £2million offer on the table, but it is believed the Magpies would want close to £15million. Leeds have yet to decide if they will make another bid for Longstaff. The player is open to leave, and chose this summer for a potential departure in order to get a transfer fee for his boyhood club.
Newcastle will consider Sean Longstaff sale
Longstaff is happy to remain at St. James’ Park despite the news. Reports claim that in the event Leeds do make a successful bid, the 27-year old will have the final say.
The midfielder began his pre-season scoring a brace against Carlisle in a friendly. According to The Athletic, Newcastle have held talks over Sean Longstaff’s future – with the board assessing their options. None of Leeds’ bids have convinced the Magpies to change their mind over a move.
However, as the summer goes on, Newcastle will be expected to loosen their stance and consider a sale.
Leeds need to make a statement
After missing out on Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, Leeds still need a midfielder. Sean Longstaff ticks a lot of boxes for the club, and Daniel Farke is keen on adding him to the team.

Longstaff brings a solid midfield presence, and could chip in with some important goals. His current profile would be much different from what Leeds currently have.
