After much posturing from all sides, and after the player went on strike, the transfer of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres to Arsenal from Sporting now seems closer to becoming a reality, with the two clubs agreeing a fee.
The Gunners will pay a guaranteed amount of ₤54.8 million for the 27-year old, with up to ₤8.6 million in add-ons and bonuses.
Former clubs Brighton and Coventry City will also benefit as they inserted sell-on clauses in their deals for him earlier in his career.
The breakthrough happened after Gyökeres’ representatives agreed to waive their share of the transfer fee, meaning a bigger portion goes to Sporting, allowing them to save face after the protracted drama.
Whilst details still remain to be ironed out and he has to fly to the UK of rhis medical, Mikel Arteta wants him in an Arsenal shirt before the first team squad jet off for their tour of the Far East next weekend.
