Cris Mosq comes early – Gunners to wrap up deal for Valencia defender

Arsenal are on the verge of sealing three transfers this week, with Cristhian Mosquera set to follow in the footsteps of Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres.

According to The Athletic, the 21-year-old defender will provide additional depth to Mikel Arteta’s backline following the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent after a torrid run with injuries.

A Spain under-21 international, Mosquera has made 90 appearances for Valencia since breaking into the first team in 2022. With just a year left on his contract at the Mestalla, sporting director Andrea Berta has had the upper hand during negotiations.

After agreeing personal terms with the player, Arsenal saw an initial €15 million bid knocked back but are now expected to succeed with a second offer.

Arteta also held talks with Dean Huijsen earlier this summer, but Arsenal opted not to pursue a deal once Real Madrid entered the picture. The highly rated defender later made the move for his £50 million release clause.
