£4m goalkeeper decision as Middlesbrough loanee transfer close

Former Middlesbrough loanee Mark Travers is close to a major decision on his future, with a £4m deal agreed with Everton.

The Bournemouth shot-stopper is on his way to Merseryside for a medical this morning to complete the transfer, with the 26-year-old set to play a back-up role to England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Travers impressed during a half-season spell on Teesside last term, arriving at the club in January as part of Michael Carrick's winter rejig.

He played 17 times for Boro, helping to get their play-off bid back on course, although they fell at the final hurdle.

Boro were keen to keep him at the Riverside on a permanent deal but were priced out of a move by Bournemouth's valuation.

Despite his brief stay at the club, Travers quickly become a popular figure among the Boro faithful, and posted a message on social media after his departure.

“Not the way we wanted to finish the season but just wanted to thank all the fans for their amazing support throughout my time at the club!" he wrote.

"Also a big thanks to the players and staff for welcoming me to Middlesbrough and making it an enjoyable experience! UTB.”

New Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards is currently asesssing his goalkeeper options following the first two weeks of pre-season training. He has Seny Dieng, Tom Glover and Sol Brynn at his disposal, with Senegal keeper Dieng close to a return to training after an Achilles injury.
