Aston Villa have joined the likes of Newcastle United and Everton in the race to sign Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher in the summer transfer window.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 25-year-old’s future and a potential return to the Premier League.
A number of English clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation in case Ateltico Madrid make him available amid speculation he could leave Spain.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 13 July that Atletico will demand £50million to sell Gallagher amid growing interest from Newcastle.
Diego Simeone’s side are not actively looking to sell the England international as he still has a role to play, but could be tempted to sell for the right offer.
This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle have set their sights on signing Gallagher to bolster their midfield.

Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham race to sign Conor Gallagher
Tottenham also hold a long-term interest in Gallagher after failing to sign him from Chelsea last summer, with the race for his signature now hotting up.
The midfielder is keen to play regular football next season to establish himself in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for his England squad ahead of the World Cup in 2026.
O’Rourke explained that the interest from Villa, Everton and Newcastle will not come as a surprise but could be dictated by where Gallagher sees his future.
“*I’m not surprised that there will be interest from Premier League clubs,*” he told Football Insider.
“He’s a top player and he’s shown that for England as well as Chelsea and his other clubs.
“A lot will depend on where Gallagher sees his future, he has a big year coming up where he’ll want to be playing regularly to break into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
“He joined Atletico for around £40million from Chelsea last year, and it’s going to take a lot more than that to get him away.
“It’ll take around the £50million mark to make Atletico consider selling him.
“I’m not sure whether Premier League clubs will be willing to go to those levels for Gallagher.
“But if Atletico do put him on the market, it doesn’t surprise me that Newcastle, Everton and others are looking at Conor Gallagher.
“Aston Villa are interested as well, because he’s a proven Premier League player. They are in the race.
“If he does become available, there will be interest in him, there’s no doubt about it.”

Villa and Man United race to sign John Victor
Gallagher is not the only player on Villa’s radar this summer, as they are also aiming to strengthen in goal amid speculation about the future of Emi Martinez.
Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Villa want to sign Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor and are prepared to race Man United for his signature.
The shot-stopper has a release clause of £6million in his contract, following an agreement with controversial Botafogo owner John Textor.
This comes after Football Insider revealed last month that Man United scouts were watching Victor at the Club World Cup where he kept a clean sheet against finalists PSG.
