**Newcastle United have been strongly linked with Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini as the young Italian seems to have taken over Marc Guehi as Eddie Howe's number one choice for a new centre-back.**
Atalanta, however, have made it very clear that a deal will not be easy, having branded the 21-year-old as 'unsellable'.
Meanwhile, it is also being reported that €50 million (£43 million) could be enough to tempt the Serie A side into selling.
There are those who think Scalvini would be a huge risk for Newcastle, having only made eight appearances last season following a long layoff with an ACL injury. But as Tino Livramento has shown, ACL injuries aren't the career-destroying injury they once were.
Matteo Moretto says Newacstle's interest in Giorgio Scalvini is 'very strong'

Journalist Matteo Moretto has been speaking on Fabrizio Romano's Italian YouTube channel. He has offered an update on Newcastle's pursuit of Scalvini, and the transfer specialist had plenty to say, starting off by confirming the Magpies' interest is strong.
> “True, I repeat, Newcastle's strong, very strong interest in Giorgio Scalvini.“As of today, Atalanta has not dropped its fixed valuation of €50million (£43.2million) for Scalvini. So, in short, we'll understand whether it could be a suitable investment for Newcastle or not.“To date, there hasn't been an official offer for Scalvini from Newcastle yet. Clearly, we'll see if the situation can evolve in a certain sense or not.“However, for Atalanta, who consider Scalvini a very important player, I would dare say he's unsellable, but sometimes the word unsellable is also used for strategic reasons.

> “Clearly, if an offer higher than €50million were to arrive, I believe that Atalanta could really evaluate him.”
Giorgio Scalvini could prove to be a bargain even at full price
---------------------------------------------------------------
Even at full price, Scalvini feels like a good deal. If we were willing to spend upwards of £60 million on Marc Guehi, we're getting a younger defender for less. Granted, one with no Premier League experience, but if a defender is good enough for the Italy national side, then who are we to say he's not going to be good enough?
Obviously, we'd prefer not having to fork out over £40 million for an untested defender, so if we can negotiate a deal ,then we absolutely should.
However, Scalvini feels like a player we should be pushing hard to sign. Fingers crossed that's the plan.
