International set for medical at Everton

Everton look set to sign AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers this week, with the Republic of Ireland international reportedly set for a medical.

The 26-year-old, according to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam, will make the move to Merseyside for a fee in the region of £4 million.

A fee that has raised a few eyebrows along the south coast.

Everton and Bournemouth have agreed a deal for goalkeeper Mark Travers.

The 25 year-old is on Merseyside today to start his Everton medical.

Sky Sports News understands the fee is around £4m plus add-ons for the Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper.#afcb

Mark Travers is a popular figure at Dean Court, having previously claimed a near clean sweep of awards following the Cherries promotion season from the Championship in 2021/22.

Travers made 46 appearances during the season, keeping 21 clean sheets in the process, as the Cherries would go on to finish second in the Championship and win promotion to the top flight of English football.

Travers impressed so much throughout the campaign that he won the vote for the AFC Bournemouth Supporters Player of the Season, AFC Bournemouth Vice-Presidents Player of the Season and the Daily Echo’s Micky Cave Player of the Season awards, only missing out on the Junior Cherries Player of the Season award which was won by striker Dominic Solanke, who became the first striker in 15 years to net 30 goals in a single campaign.

Travers also won the English Football League Championship Golden Glove award with 20 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances, beating both Huddersfield Town’s Lee Nicholls and Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham who had 18.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to hold down the number one shirt in the top flight of English football, initially losing his place to Neto and last season to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Over the past three campaigns, Travers has made 21 Premier League appearances. He has been getting regular first-team football while on loan, both with Stoke City and Middlesbrough, where he has amassed 30 appearances in the Championship.

I can’t help but think a keeper of Travers standards with a contract until summer 2027 could command a bit more than around £4million!

A little surprised, but good luck to him, I guess. Hopefully, the potential add-ons are on the generous side as the up front money feels very light when selling to another PL team. – To join this conversation, please click here.
