Nottingham Forest transfer stance set out as 'interest expressed' in Reds man

Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo is said to be a target for Botafogo.

The Brazilian is likely to move on from the City Ground this summer amid a reshuffle of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. And a return to his homeland could be a possibility.

Lyon previously had Danilo on their radar and were said to have made a £21 million bid in an effort to secure his services. However, doubts about his proposed move across the Channel emerged amid the French side’s off-field issues.

The 24-year-old’s representatives have reportedly been told by the Reds he is not in their plans for the upcoming campaign. Although a switch to Lyon now appears to be a no-go, Danilo does have other options.

According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola (via Torcedores), Napoli, Inter Milan and Real Betis have had their eye on Danilo. As it stands, though, Botafogo are the only club to have ‘expressed interest’ in signing him.

A return to Palmeiras could also be a possibility for the Forest player. If Richard Rios - who has been on Forest’s radar - moves on, the Brazilian outfit could turn their attention to Danilo.

Palmeiras are said to be ‘exploring the situation’ in the eventuality of Rios’ departure. However, finances could prove to be a stumbling block for any potential swoop.

The Reds are said to want €25 million (£21.6m) for the midfielder, who has four years remaining on his contract. They signed Danilo from Palmeiras in January 2023.

Forest have already overseen some transfer business with Botafogo this summer. Striker Igor Jesus and defender Jair Cunha have been added to head coach Nuno’s ranks from the Brazilian club.

Further incomings, as well as outgoings, are on the agenda Trentside in the coming weeks. The Reds played their first pre-season friendly on Saturday, drawing 0-0 at Chesterfield. They have little more than a month to go before they kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at home to Brentford on August 17.
