Burnley have been dealt a serious blow as Zeki Amdouni has suffered a cruciate ligament tear and will have to undergo surgery in the coming days.
The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Benfica, with the Lisbon club having a clause to make that move permanent. Amdouni had a mixed time in Portugal and ultimately Benfica decided that the money involved didn’t make the purchase worthwhile for them.
That purchase clause had been set at €18m, and there were suggestions Benfica could return and try to sign the Burnley player for a much lower amount. It was also reported there was interest from multiple Bundesliga clubs, with the prospect of the Clarets making a decent fee from the attacker’s exit this summer.
A transfer won’t be happening now, with Switzerland’s Corner Magazine reporting the Swiss international has suffered a cruciate ligament tear and is set to have surgery in the coming days.
Amdouni is now set to face the majority, or all, of the coming season on the sidelines.
