It’s set to be a busy week of transfer activity at Arsenal.
Over the weekend, it had been reported that the Gunners were hoping to reach a final agreement this week and on Monday morning the transfer was given the ‘here we go’ treatment by specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Taking to social media platform X, the transfer guru said: “BREAKING: Cristhian Mosquera to Arsenal, here we go! Verbal agreement in place with formal steps to follow. €15m fee plus add-ons, total package under €20m. Long term deal in place, Mosquera who only wanted Arsenal. Medical ready later this week if all goes to plan.”
Arsenal to sign Valencia centre-back
That’s a big coup for Arsenal with the centre-back already showing bags of potential at 21 years old. He is a product of the Valencia youth academy and his move to the Gunners will be a first away from the Spanish outfit.
It will take a lot for Mosquera to oust Gabriel or William Saliba from the starting XI at the Emirates Stadium but he is a player with enough quality to deputise across a busy 2025/26 campaign as Mikel Arteta looks to finally get his hands on a Premier League trophy.
Mosquera was named as one of the ‘next generation’ talents by The Guardian in 2021 and, so far, has gone on to meet the hype. The player has never been capped by the senior Spanish side but has been ever-present at youth level.
Former Valencia youth coach Miguel-Ángel Angulo described his attributes as: “He’s characterised by a physical condition and good technical qualities, powerful in the air, and mature for his age.”
Gunners progress with Viktor Gyokeres deal
Mosquera is set to follow Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Christian Norgaard through the doors at Arsenal this summer. Chelsea winger Noni Madueke is also expected to arrive and could be announced by the club before the signing of Mosquera with his medical imminent.
All focus will then turn to the signing of a striker to fix the team’s lack of goalpower last season. Sporting CP bagsman Viktor Gyokeres looks the most likely candidate as he refuses to return to the Portuguese club in an effort to push through a transfer.
Giving the latest on Gyokeres on Monday, Romano wrote: “Understand Gyökeres’ agents have landed in London to seal details of the deal with Arsenal! All set also for Viktor to travel for medical as soon as details will be sorted. €63.5m plus €10m deal almost agreed, commission reduced as it has to be fixed today.”
