What Christopher Nkunku has already said about Anfield and Dominik Szoboszlai as Liverpool now consider £35m move

Liverpool are considering a move to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea.

The France international actually started for Chelsea in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup and helped the Blues to a 2-0 win over Fluminense, but despite that, his future still seems to be away from Stamford Bridge.

TBR Football understand Chelsea are ready to sell Nkunku – who is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich.

Now, a new story from L’Equipe states that Liverpool are monitoring the situation closely, with Chelsea valuing the attacker at £35m.

In light of this update, past comments from Christopher Nkunku suggest he may well be open to joining Arne Slot at Anfield this summer.

If Liverpool firm up their interest in the Chelsea No.18 with an official bid, personal terms may not be an issue for the Reds.

Nkunku has previously admitted during an interview with L’Equipe in May 2022 that he always chooses to be the Reds on EAFC (previously known as FIFA), simply saying when asked to name his preferred team: “Liverpool.”

The Frenchman is also close with Liverpool No.8 Dominik Szoboszlai, having made 73 appearances together for RB Leipzig – impressively, they combined for 13 goals in those outings.

Nkunku even sent the Hungary international a message after his £60m move from RB Leipzig to Liverpool in July 2023, writing “let’s go” in response on Instagram in support of his friend (via HITC).

Furthermore, the 27-year-old has also expressed admiration for Anfield.

After Liverpool defeated the Blues 4-1 in January 2024, Nkunku, who scored the consolation goal for the Blues, told Chelsea: “We feel sad because we lost a game which we wanted to win… We know the stadium is difficult to play in, but we can do a lot more.”

Liverpool have admired Christopher Nkunku for years

A story from ESPN back in February 2022 claimed that Liverpool wanted to sign Nkunku while he was starring at RB Leipzig – a club who he ultimately scored 70 goals and provided 56 assists for in 172 appearances.

Chelsea eventually blew competitors out of the water by agreeing a £195,000-a-week contract with the man from Lagny-sur-Marne, also triggering his £52m release clause.

Now, however, Liverpool could finally get their hands on Nkunku.
