Former Aston Villa winger Ashley Young has indicated that he has no plans to retire, despite turning 40 and leaving Premier League rivals Everton at the end of last season. Young has racked up over 750 career appearances in 22 years of professional football but isn't ready to call time on his decorated playing career.

Previously of Watford, has had two spells at ; he first joined in 2006 under Martin O'Neill, before moving onto Manchester United in 2011 having made 190 appearances. Young, formerly an England international, then returned in 2021 and worked under , and Unai Emery in that time.

In 2023, Young returned north and joined Everton, for who he played 70 times across the last two seasons, but despite leaving the Toffees just as they prepare to move into their brand new home on Merseyside, and turning 40 earlier this month, Young is still on the look-out for his next challenge, wherever that may be.

"To keep playing," Young told when asked of his plans for the immediate future. "I know I've turned 40, but it's not stopping me at all. I'm looking forward to what's next, as well, but I'm not hanging up my boots anytime soon. I'm ready to out there and play again.

"Yeah, of course [I want to get out and train everyday still]. I've said for years now that I feel fitter now than I did when I was about 25. I owe a lot to [his Inter Milan boss] Antonio Conte for his lovely running sessions that he put us through! I'm feeling fit. I've been training and I don't feel like I'm ready to retire yet."
