ESPN pundit says Chelsea can 'certainly' win the Premier League after CWC final observation

Chelsea can call themselves the greatest side on the planet for another four years after they were crowned the winners of the Club World Cup.

The Blues ran rampant in the first half against PSG, scoring three goals without reply on their way to winning the post-domestic season competition.

One of the biggest incentives as far as the club were concerned by featuring in the United States was the financial benefits. Chelsea will be desperate to be present in the upcoming 2029 version, which could take place in Qatar.

After winning the Conference League and now Club World Cup, there is not long until the Premier League gets back underway.

Steve Nicol believes Chelsea can win the Premier League after Club World Cup final win

Enzo Maresca will be looking to build on their impressive fourth placed finish in the table, and will have faith they can do so after launching a title bid in the first half of the campaign.

A number of weaknesses were pointed out by many at the time, with one of those being the experience and leadership in the ranks not being sufficient enough.

However, Steve Nicol said that he has now seen that from the players in the Club World Cup final, and believes they have the tools to mount a serious charge next season.

He said to ESPN: “Chelsea have now set the standard for themselves what they did, particularly in the first half. We were talking last year about, where’s the leadership in this team? We were talking about how they’re so young. Well, today they grew up because it was leadership all over the field.

“The back line held a fantastic line the whole game. The middle of the park dominated what we thought was the best midfield on the planet for PSG. If they can put all that together, consistently, they can be anybody, and they can certainly win the Premier League, if they produce that game after game after game.”

Mikel thinks Chelsea are still a signing away

John Obi Mikel has made it no secret that he is critical of the current Chelsea side, given the high standards that were set during his tenure at the club.

One player who has frequently been in his firing line is Robert Sanchez, and this remained the case despite his excellent performance in the final.

Mikel said Chelsea still need a new goalkeeper despite him picking up the Golden Glove award for the tournament.

The Blues have previously been linked with a move for Mike Maignan, however at this stage he looks as if he will be going into the new season with AC Milan.
