‘Took him to another level…’ Bryan Mbeumo’s former coach says Man Utd target has perfect quality for Ruben Amorim

It’s a transfer that has seemed to be ages in the making, but Bryan Mbeumo’s dedication to joining Man Utd has ensured that it still remains a question of “when”, and not “if”.

That’s the only way that this move has stayed alive till now, as evidenced by the likes of Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres, and Victor Osimhen moving elsewhere.

While that alone is a huge plus for Man Utd and Ruben Amorim, Bryan Mbeumo’s former coach in France, with Troyes, has added to the excitement.

He has named Mbeumo’s quality that makes him not just perfect for Amorim, but for the whole Man Utd squad in desperate need of a jolt.

Bryan Mbeumo’s former coach on the player

The reasons why Man Utd are targeting Bryan Mbeumo couldn’t be clearer beyond the fact that he’s a proven Premier League performer coming off a 20-goal season in the league, while yet to hit his theoretical peak.

However, raw stats and numbers aren’t always transferable from one team to another, as numerous factors influence it – from tactical systems to teammates and the club structure, there are too many unknowns.

Therefore, it’s important to control the controllable, and in a professional footballer’s case, it is the effort they put in to improve themselves.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Bryan Mbeumo’s former coach at Troyes, Rui Almeida, said Mbeumo has a quality that will come as music to the ears of Amorim and Man Utd fans.

He said: “In my opinion, he had two or three things to stand out – his physical capacities, but also he thought really fast – before the ball arrived to him, he already had two options in his mind.

“From a young age, we told him that each training had to be like a final, and he caught that and got that for his life. He trained like every session was really important. That, maybe, separated him and took him to another level from other talents that we had at his age.

“One thing that you always need, and I see Bryan doing at Brentford, is that he is a team player. He’s very good individually, but he works a lot for the team, he runs a lot for the team, and defends a lot for the team, so I think he is a player that Ruben likes a lot.”

Mbeumo will help lift standards at Man Utd

The words of Almeida are perfect in the sense that working hard, training well, and being professional are all controllable things in which Mbeumo excels.

If he does all of those things, it is almost a certainty that he will be a success at Old Trafford, even if he doesn’t score 20 goals every season.

More importantly, a player like that raises the standards of the dressing room as well by setting the tone in training and in matches.

Bruno Fernandes has often been talked up as a frustrated figure because his effort is not matched by others, so, in Cunha and Mbeumo, he’s getting two more teammates who will do that now.

That will collectively lift the standards at United because, otherwise, the players are at risk of getting found out when they are even dropping their effort levels to 99%.

That is how an elite team functions, and that is something which has been lacking at United for far too long. Hopefully Mbeumo becomes a part of the team that engineers that change.
