Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been keeping an eye on Rangers star Danilo.

The 26-year-old is looking to make a bigger impact at Ibrox next season after an underwhelming campaign last time out.

The Brazilian notched five goals and four assists in 23 matches in the Scottish Premiership under Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson.

The Light Blues may need him to be fit and firing for the Champions League qualifying clash with Panathinaikos, which is approaching rapidly.

Danilo is looking forward to the new campaign, when he will work with Russell Martin in a competitive environment for the first time.

The Sao Paulo-born forward, who scored in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley in a behind-closed-doors friendly, took to Instagram (13 July) to share a message ahead of the return to action.

He said: “Grace got me here. Faith will take me further. Ready for the season.”

Reds star Gravenberch, who played with the Gers ace in his time at Ajax, reacted to the post by liking it.

Tijani Reijnders, Connor Barron and Dujon Sterling also liked it.

Rangers need Danilo to step up next season

Martin needs Danilo to step up next season, as he has struggled to do so in his Gers career so far.

Danilo has notched 12 goals and nine assists in 48 matches, which is a solid return but nothing special, especially in a dominant team like the Auchenhowie side.

The Scottish outfit may end up losing both Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers, with both attackers attracting interest from abroad, from Lille and AEK Athens, respectively.

If that happens, as it stands, the former Feyenoord man will have an increased role by default, as he would be the only recognised striker on the books in Govan.

The new majority owners, the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, may choose to address that in the transfer market, but he needs to keep working hard in case they cannot find a solution.

The evidence suggests that he is doing just that, and that will be encouraging for supporters, as uncertainty remains over their forward situation.

They have been linked with Dor Turgeman and Jamie Vardy, but whether they can get deals over the line remains to be seen.
