Manchester United and Tottenham have both disappointed in the Premier League last season. They ended up 15th and 17th respectively.
Even with both the teams making it to the Europa League final and Spurs winning it at the end, both clubs were exposed time and again in midfield.
Meanwhile, Thomas Frank has been made the new head coach of Tottenham. So, a major midfield overhaul is likely. Their failed attempt to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest has pushed them to explore other options.
Joao Palhinha Could Make A PL Return
Joao Palhinha was thought of as one of if not the best defensive-midfielders when he arrived to England to play for Fulham FC in the Premier League.
He moved to**FC Bayern Munich** last summer for €51m. Unfortunately, it did not work out in Germany.
The midfielder saw little game time, in the league he made 17 appearances however only 6 of those were starts. That means on average he played less than 40 minutes a match. This put him behind on the depth chart Josh Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Aleksandar Pavlović.
Now, the club is looking to sell him, he has jumped back onto the radar of English clubs. As per CaughtOffside, both Man Utd and Tottenham see Palhinha as top option for their midfield issues. He is viewed as a viable midfield option. He has physical presence and ability to win the ball. Additionally, his experience of Premier League football should make him appealing.
After what both clubs have been through recently, either would want an option such as him. He provides balance, control, and defensive structure to the middle of the pitch. A bidding war could start very soon, as both clubs are looking to rebuild ahead of the new season.
