A Newcastle United star with just 12 months left on his contract is considering his future on Tyneside after falling out of Eddie Howe’s starting XI.
This summer is shaping up to be a promising one for the Magpies, with Anthony Elanga already signed and several others looking set to join.
Newcastle United are eager to improve multiple positions in their starting XI ahead of the 2025/26 campaign which includes a return to the Champions League. Elanga is a quality right-winger signed for Eddie Howe, and the focus is now on signing a striker.
However, the focus is not all on arrivals on Tyneside. Several players could leave the club this summer as Howe looks to find more space in Newcastle’s first-team squad to fit the new signings in.
Sean Longstaff has serious interest from Leeds, while it has already been confirmed that Callum Wilson has left Newcastle upon the expiry of his contract.
Now, a new transfer report has stated one of Newcastle’s most iconic players is considering his future on Tyneside.

Kieran Trippier could leave Newcastle United this summer
Kieran Trippier was Newcastle’s first signing after the historic takeover, having joined from Atletico Madrid in January 2022. His goals in the latter months of that campaign were vital to keeping the Magpies up, and his contributions the season after were integral to Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League.
Trippier lost his place in the starting XI to Tino Livramento near the end of the 2023/24 campaign and has now been reduced to a squad player. He was named in the starting XI for the final few months of last season, but it is clear he will return to the bench now that Lewis Hall is back in training.

According to The Athletic, Trippier is a player who could move on this summer. The 34-year-old is one of Newcastle’s highest earners on £120,000-a-week, so it is likely Howe will keep an eye out for interested parties.
The report also states that Trippier himself is ‘considering his options’ as he is now in the final year of his deal on Tyneside. Despite his stance, Howe still values his leadership and creative abilities.

There is no doubt that Trippier is a pioneer at Newcastle and a major candidate for the club’s best-ever right-back. He joined during a time when there was so much uncertainty over Newcastle’s future in the Premier League, but he still believed in the project.
Trippier is now reaping the benefits of the move, having played in the Champions League and lifted the Carabao Cup on the Wembley arches.
On social media, Trippier shared his delight at being back for Newcastle’s pre-season training, but deep down, he is hungry for more.
Trippier admitted he wanted more game time at Newcastle in a revealing interview in April, but with Livramento getting better by the day, it is tough to see him breaking back into the starting lineup.
It will be a sad day when Trippier leaves, but fans will always commend him for his contributions to the club.
